Who - Dan, Henry

- Yay, warm up exercises done in the correct order!!

30 minutes of free practice of kata.
- Ran through Toyama kata as well as the Chuden Sei Tei kata
- Although using a lighter sword is easier on the shoulders, I did miss that feeling of slinging the tip from cut to cut
- On the cuts with multiple enemies, it's key to lead with your head by turning and sighting your enemy before swinging
- Dan is still squeezing on the tsuka too late in his swing of nukitsuke....
- Kata 7 of Toyama, make sure to go under the sword on the first cut. You don't actually start drawing til the second step

30 minutes of Kumitachi
- Ran through the 6 kumitachi
- Went over the changes in kumitchi 1 and the clarifications on kata 2
- You have to step back just enough to be out of the swords way but not enough where you're out of the engagement distance
- Shidachi must wait to step after the uchidachi takes a mini step in kumitachi 4 and 5

10-15 minutes of kumitachi bunkai
- went over kata 1 and 2
- stressed the importance of timing and maai
- showed katate tsuki and it's application

personal notes - changing from heavy sword to light sword and back, I felt that you could more easily notice where you're suspectible to cutting with the wrong muscles. Let the sword move in a way where it never completely stops but is floating in transition between cuts but moving the hips....
