The practice of truth and falsehood

I was watching Hataya sensei's dvd, and in it is this interview. In the interview he was asked about the 3 parts of training that helps complete a good curriculum for training. So he talked about iai, and he talked about tameshgiri. He then talked about freeplay (he talked about some form whether it be gekken or kendo). He described it as, the practice of truth and falsehood.

If you only know how to use the "truth" IE only attacking the most direct way possible. This will work when things must be done quickly and RIGHT NOW kind of moments. But you would not open with this mindset. People who only believe in the "truth" will only clash with the other "truth"s. However truths can be manipulated into falsehoods.

Falsehood is the idea of making your opponent to think you're telling the truth only to deceive him. Obviously that's common sense right? But body language is extremely hard to manipulate. Intent is even harder. If you use falsehood only, your attacks have no power or center. You will just get pushed around or just get cut through.

I think most people in the class only use the truthful side of tactics, but a person who can use both sides with ease will have a much easier time to reach victory.
