Who - Ron, Andy

We started off with some newspaper cutting with bokken. The paper was from one of the local newspapers from Fort Lee, so it was a bit tougher than what the exercise is recommended for. However we carried on through. The main problems were that of all the energy being in the shoulder and hands. Rather it should be all the way to the front of the sword instead. Learning to relax and just bring the sword down naturally and pushing with the abs. After cutting gedan, we cut sui hei which followed the same principal but nevertheless was much more difficult.

Kata ....
Andy -
1) Kata 1
a) when drawing, point the tsuka where you want to aim
b) reach out to cut on that first draw. Also IMAGINE where your target is and why you're bringing the sword out there
c) keep the sword within the area of your body. You don't want to be too open
d) during noto, keep the tsuka level. Not moving up, nor moving down.

2) Kata 2
a) hand does not go up to the tsuka, but the tsuka comes to the hand
b) draw and cut in one smooth easy step
c) remember where your target is aiming for!
d) if you're doing seigan, and your left foot is in the front. You're doing it wrong

general notes
a) put your shoulders back, and keep your chin and head back as well.
b) kata 3, don't jumble your movements. Do each movements within the frame of when they're supposed to happen.
c) on kata 4, step, step over, THEN draw, turn around
d) kata 6, start drawing on the second step.
