Day 1...seminars....
I've been put in charge of running the seminars this year. Scheduling was a pain in the ass because you have to make sure things run smooth and make sure people are where they belong. The morning seminars were pretty bare, but that's because no one really wants to wake up that early on a thursday. I don't blame them, I wouldn't either. But for those who did, got a great one on one lesson with the teachers.
It was good to see the sensei's again. All of the looked good however Iitsuka sensei got a new hairdo and no longer wears glasses. He looks like a stud now.
Everyone is running around and helping out. Just like it should be. What's strange though is the lack of people in Hataya sensei's advanced cutting seminar. For the midday one, there was only 1 person!!!!
Today's lunch was subs and chips....salami mmmmm......
Feb 29th
Day 2 seminars/testing/embu
More people, this is more like it. Things are looking better participation wise. Sakaida sensei is putting on a hell of a seminar. I made the seminars 2 hours each instead of an hour, so the sensei's are definitely going much more in depth than usual
Had to drive to Orlando during the day to retrieve Hataya sensei's sword. That was a fun drive. Wish I could have stayed longer.
I came back in time to help judge for Batto Federation Testing. We had 3 people testing for nidan and 2 for sandan. Unfortunately only 1 person passed. Maybe Tom Smyth and I were too tough?....
Eventually it was time for embu, I had to do a demo and even got to sit at the sensei's table. My embu consisted of tsubame, inazuma, and gyaku inazuma.
Bob Lampp sensei performed waki cutting, Bill Henderson demonstrated Mugai Ryu, Iitsuka sensei perfomed some cutting for us. Mukai sensei did Toyama kata and some cutting. Sakaida sensei with some awesome cutting and performed the chuden sei tei kata. Mukai sensei and Hataya sensei did their infamous shinken kumitachi but they looked a bit out of sync. Hataya sensei
was his usual coolness, and performed the gunto toho.
